Description
The Somatic Yoga Therapy Lab is designed to give students practice in client intake, assessment selection, protocol development and yoga therapy session delivery using somatic exploration of developmental movement patterns. Using Thomas Myers model of myofascial lines to create a global picture of posture and movement, the students will practice reading the body and then expanding the picture to all the koshas thus encompassing all the elements that shape a client’s well-being including thoughts, feelings and physical sensation. This course will also familiarize the students to the process and paperwork involved in the therapy program including SOAP notes preparing them to work with an integrative health team. NOTE: Students are encouraged to wear or bring to change into, form fitting clothing such as yoga leggings, bike shorts, sports bra or form fitting tank top. This is a required course for YogaFit Healthcare Therapy Program.
In this 2-day course, students will sharpen their body reading skills with a focus on somatic holding patterns and look at posture and developmental movement patterns from an integrative and holistic perspective. Student practice will include client intake and a chance to expand into practice choosing other integrative assessments that are appropriate to the client and then developing and delivering a yoga therapy protocol and session that addresses. Experiential practices will include somatic techniques to support postural and functional movement revision. Students will become familiar with the forms required in the therapy program from assessment to protocol delivery including various formats of SOAP notes.
